IMT Ghaziabad GD/PI Process

Slot : Feb 21st 12.30 PM
Venue : OU, Hyderabad [Ask for OUCIP or IPE in the OU campus to find the place]

The process started at 2.20 PM due to delays in the morning slot. It started off with a GD where one member of our grooup was told to pick up one envelope from three to four envelopes that contained different GD topic. And our GD topic was
'Slumdog Phenomenon, the Hype is due to the skin effect'

We were given 8 mins to discuss. The group size was 15 members. Luckily no fish market but for the other two groups who had the GDs going on simultaneously had fish markets. We spoke about the many things that came into play for the success of Slumdog. Skin effect was the skin color as per our group. There can be other interpretations like skin is more like the surface, so a surfacial effect. My contribution was that one reason of success can be the on going recession. People are losing jobs and facing monetary problems. So slumdog, where a guy from slums earns a million shows a ray of hope. I spoke thrice but then it revolved around this point.

After the discussion each one of us was given 1 min time for monlogue. And a further 5 minutes to summarise on paper.
Overall a good GD.

Personal Interview was cool. Three in the panel. No technical questions. For me the questions were like Why MBA? Why did you switch companies? And a few more related to work ex. One of them asked about Disaster Management and I told him about the Risk Management we do at our company and that I never made anything for Disaster Management. He said ok and said Disaster Management is a part of risk management. That was it for the interview. It took some 10-12 mins. And I think it went on well. By the time my process got over it was 5.30 PM.

Some more Qs asked to other people in my group - What is sub-prime crisis? India's GDP? India's Export Market? A question on 'some' Pai to an Infoscion - He was a former CFO of Infosys and now he is the HR. Difference between leaders and managers. What will do for India if you are the PM - How will you work on the regional differences that exist? What are your hobbies? Why do you want to leave your company after 3-4 months of joining it or Why do you want to leave your company after working for 32 months?

SIBM Pune GD/PI Experience

SIBM Pune 15.02 1.30 PM Slot
Snap Score : 91.25

I arrived at the SIU old campus on S.B.Road at 10.45AM and waited at the canteen. I boarded the 11.30 AM bus and reached the Lavale campus at 12.30 PM. The campus was pretty far off from the city. Situated on the ghats the campus had some wonderful viewpoints and you could site some Corporate campuses like infosys.

The Group:

Our group for the entire process turned out to be very small with only 6 members turning up out of the 11.But, the mix was good. All of us had work ex, 3 were from the IT sector (Infosys and Cognizant), 1 from Tata Motors, 1 from Nuclear Power Corporation and myself from a consultancy agency (Yalamanchili Consultancy at Vizag).

Group Discussion:

The first process was a case study and being a small group proved to be advantageous as all of us had ample time to speak.

The topic:
Vijay was a budding accountant at an ad agency for a liquor company. He listens to the speech of some social worker which says about the poor getting affected by corporate ads. The scenario is like this , ads on liquor are banned but then the companies as an alternate strategy are showing up ads in a similar way to liquor (At this point we can understand that maybe some mineral water ads, apple juices in similar kind of bottles). This inturn is tempting the poor. Now Vijay has some ethical problems as his company is doing the same. What should Vijay do?

The topic was pretty tough as vijay was just a budding accountant and my conclusion was vijay should stick to the company but then he should work with some social workers against such ads for the better cause of the society. In this way, he can stay in his company as the company didnt do anything illegal for him to leave and at the same time he trying to ensure ethics.

Group Task:

We had to build a structure 15 inches high with some paper, straws and tape. On this structure we had to balance a football. It was a disaster as the struture collapsed on placing the ball. But, then it was difficult to do so in 3 minutes. It was a good learning experience.

Personal Interview:

PI was cool. It was just one question for ten minutes.

The question:
Imagine the current recession continues for 5 years. You need to find a solution for Infy, TCS and major IT companies of India to continue in their current growth rate and at the same time retain their current eomployees and continue intake of employees.

I tried some solutions like increasing work hrs, looking for emerging markets, capital investment, domestic markets and so on. But they contradicted every solution. Then I gave them a smile and asked 'If there is any solution for this problem'. All the three members in the panel laughed and said 'NO, If there was one TCS and Infy would have already implemented'. That was all for the interview.

The overall process was stress free with student coordinaters helping out and making us feel comfortable. Thanks to Ankur, our coordinator.
